Librarians are great sources for what is new in this area. My granddaughter confided that she didn’t like informational books, and then told me how much she liked two biographies, both about strong women abolitionists. Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom, (a Caldecott Honor Book) that is in the Osterlin Library, and a biography of Sojourner Truth. Abraham Lincoln is one of my favorite children’s biography topics, probably because my grandparents’ home was near New Salem, IL, where he lived as a young man. I also love books by Peter Sis who has intricately illustrated pages and chooses subjects for their controversial stands for their period, e.g. Galileo and Darwin.
